We are a clinical research operations support group (or specialized team?) that assists investigators needing pre award assistance.

What does Study Start-Up Group (SSG) support?

We provide pre-award support for Single-Site and Multi-Site Industry, Federal/Non-Federal Grants and IIT Studies. The clinical research operational areas include:

Institutional and External Regulatory approvals
Budgeting and Contracting
Operational Workflow Feasibility
Recruitment Strategies

What are the costs associated with working with Study Start Up Group and utilizing their services?

The standard basic support for pre-award services is free. If the investigator is asking for CRC support that exceeds 20% effort or effort that requires a long engagement that exceeds 8 weeks, the CRH will work with the PI to identify funding sources.

Simple fees/Complex fees.

NOTE- Charges are only applicable after study has been awarded. Charges may or may not apply based on the study funding source.

Can my team be financially supported by the Study Start-Up Group (SSG) budget? Answer

If a Division/team has a CRC team or a preawards team that is engaged on helping their investigators, CRH will not contribute to their funding. We can help support the effort if the activities are deemed too complicated for the local team to accomplish.

What division does Study Start-Up Group (SSG) belong to? What is the composition of the group?

SSG sits within the CRH under the Department of Medicine. The group consists of clinical research experts including CRM/PM, CRC, Finance RA, QnC, and Budget and Contract Leads. The group also has the capability to leverage staff with specialty expertise, which allows SSG to serve the pre-award needs for both traditional and complex clinical research studies and projects.

What specific areas of research does the Study Start-Up Group (SSG) support?

Our team supports pre-award for all therapeutic areas within DoM and on occasion supports divisions and departments outside of DoM. We support clinical trials and clinical research studies that are interventional, observational or registry including drug, biologics, devices (including digital health studies).

How soon after I submit an intake request will I be contacted by the Study Start-Up Group (SSG) team?

Within 2-3 working days.

What are the estimated lead times for completing these tasks, and what are the standard expectations for the Study Start-Up Group (SSG) support process?

Timelines vary based on the nature of the support required:

Full Study Activation: Typically completed within 6 months (of providing all necessary documents to SSG). We are working with institutional groups as part of the ROVER initiative to shorten this timeline to 90 days in the future.
Targeted Support Services: Usually completed within 4 to 6 weeks, contingent upon the request.
